Our tour will start from Manali, begin the Leh- Ladakh tour by heading to Sarchu. We pass through the popular adventure-haven Rohtang pass at an altitude of 13,000 ft. above sea level and have breakfast at Maddi. The 13,050 feet high Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh, a major tourist attraction and at a distance of 51 km from Manali, Rohtang Pass is on the highway to Keylong/Leh. In winters, the pass remains closed but is open from June to October for motor vehicles. This pass is a gateway to Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and Leh valley.
At a height of over 10000 feet above sea level Sarchu is a convenient, hence, a common stop for tourists on a road trip to Jammu and Kashmir. During your journey, make a small stop at Tandi-confluence of Chandra & Bhaga river. A multitude of tourists from different parts of the country come to experience the adrenaline rush of driving on this mountain road. While passing it, capture the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. On reaching Sarchu, check-in at the camps and enjoy a relaxing sleep.
In the morning, check-out from the camps and head to Leh. Start driving along the Bhaga River and pass Baralacha La and the serene Suraj Tal on the way. Over 16000 feet, Baralacha La is one of the highest passes in India. Suraj Tal lies just before the pass and one sight of this alpine lake will make you feel a lot closer to nature. During this journey, you will also pass the incredible Gata Loops, a series of 21 hairpin bends that appear just one after the other. Only the strong hearted can drive here, and now is your chance to do so. These zig-zag turns lead to Nakee La, another high mountain pass, on Leh-Manali Highway.
Later, after passing Lachalung La, Pang and Tanglang La, arrive in Leh. A high-desert city, Leh is a land of Buddhist culture and adventure. The biggest attraction of this place is the 17th-century Leh Palace, built by King Sengge Namgyal as the royal residence. On reaching Leh, check-in at the hotel and rest for the night.
You can use this day to learn about the local culture and heritage. There are a number of tourist attractions that you can explore. Start your day with a hearty breakfast, and then head out to Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace,Thiksey Gompa and Stok Palace.
Sangam Valley is a 48 kilometre drive from Leh and is the confluence of the rivers Indus and Zanskar. Just the view of Sangam Valley from the road above it can make you swoon in ecstasy. The colours of the two rivers can be distinctly seen at the confluence. It is an amazing place to sit, relax, and enjoy a picnic with family and friends. On the way witness Magnetic Hill, the Hill continues to baffle tourists till today. So called because of the strong magnetic force that pulls cars up even when the ignition is turned off, a car drive up the magnetic hill is well worth the gravity defying experience.
Today is also a great opportunity for you to explore the local market and buy souvenirs of this journey. Go for authentic pashmina shawls and exquisite handicrafts like Buddhist masks and prayer wheels. After sightseeing and shopping, retreat to the hotel and sleep through the night.
Start driving towards Nubra Valley (Hunder village). En-route, pass one of the highest mountain passes in the world, Khardung La. From an altitude of over 17500 feet, you can capture panoramic vistas of the Ladakhi landscape.Nubra Valley is locally referred to as Ldumra, meaning the Valley of Flowers. Standing where the Shyok and Siachen Rivers meet, the valley lies to the south of the Siachen Glacier and separates Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. The locals are believed to be the descendants of Greek tribal people, who came here looking for the tomb of Jesus Christ. Continue driving towards Hunder village, which is an oasis amidst the cold desert of the valley. On reaching Hunder, transfer to the campsite and rest & later on visit for camel ride on the golden sand dunes of Nubra. The highlight of this village is the double-humped Bactrian camels. In night spend time with star gazing & enjoy your stay at camps.
In the morning, visit the famous Diskit Monastery – one of the oldest and largest monasteries in Nubra Valley. Following the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, this 14th century Gompa offers astonishing views of the valley and boasts amazing frescos and murals. Embark on a road journey back to Leh, again passing the wondrous Khardung La. On reaching here, check-in at the hotel and rest. The evening is free for you to explore the intriguing Leh city on your own. You can use this time to go for shopping in the local markets or visiting the various points of interest. End this exciting day with a comfortable sleep at the hotel.
After freshening up in the morning, go on an approximately 6-hour drive to Pangong Tso – one of the largest brackish lakes in Asia. At an altitude of over 14000 feet this serene lake stretches over 100 km from India to China. The imposing hills surrounding the majestic lake add to its already overwhelming magnificence. In the evening, enjoy bonfire and dance under the starlit sky. Spend the night in your camp.
Wake up to a beautiful sunrise, as the first rays of the sun hit the turquoise waters of the lake. Pangong Tso stretching around 150 km (with the eastern two-thirds in Tibet), this mesmerising lake plays artist with a surreal palette of vivid colours – from Caribbeanstyle turquoise to leaden grey, depending on the light – contrasting magically with the surrounding khakhi swirls of arid, snow-brushed mountains. Visitor activities don't stretch much beyond ogling the ever-changing lake and taking bracing lake shore walks. Later, drive back to Leh and rest at the hotel. Enjoy a cultural program in the evening, learning about the heritage of this region, before sleeping in your room.
On next day after having breakfast, check out from hotel & make your drop at Leh’s Bakula Airport, get your flight from there to your destination.
